One and Two-Year Vocational Technical Programs

Kirkwood Community College's one- and two-year water and wastewater training programs prepare students for employment in the areas of wastewater collection and treatment, water treatment and distribution, and laboratory analysis in water and wastewater facilities. Job opportunities are available with municipal and private treatment facilities, regulatory agencies and engineering firms.

Both programs include classroom, laboratory and practical field learning experiences. The pilot scale wastewater treatment, water treatment and laboratory facilities provide students with operating experience in a functioning, treatment plant. Three full-time and several part-time instructors handle the instruction in these two programs.

Kirkwood Community College has had a one-year water and wastewater technology program since 1974. The two-year associate degree program was instituted in 1982. Over the past 25 years more than 495 operators have graduated from these programs. More than 200 part-time students have received in service or partial training in this program. Currently, the program accepts 20 new students each year, with entry either in the fall or spring semesters.
